The Thomas and Margaret Huang Fund for Graduate Research will support graduate students in Human-Computer Intelligent Interaction at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois. The Fund honors Professor and Mrs. Huang's many contributions to science, engineering, and society at large. The Fund was established by alumnus James J. Kuch (MS ECE '94) and is actively receiving gifts from alumni and friends. Professor Huang has advised over one hundred students during his career that has spanned five decades and three major research universities (MIT, Purdue, and UofI). The fund is actively seeking gifts from alumni and friends; it is yet to be determined when the first award from the Fund will be made – your gift will make this possible sooner!
Thomas Huang is the William L. Everitt Professor of Electrical Engineering and Co-Chair of Human-Computer Intelligent Interaction at the Beckman Institute. Professor Huang is one of the leading figures in computer vision, pattern recognition and human computer interaction in the world. His accomplishments include winning the 2010 "Most Cited Paper of the Decade Award" from the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (together with coauthors Dr. Yong Rui of Microsoft, and Professor Shih-Fu Chang of Columbia University)! He also received the HP Innovation Research Award in 2009.
