Stephen Sligar received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois in 1975. He is the Director of the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology and a professor in the U of I departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and the College of Medicine. He is a full-time faculty member in the Beckman Institute 3D Micro and Nanosystems group. Together with Dr. Kevin Sanders and through the Beckman Institute, he founded Myochlor, Inc. to develop genetically engineered heme proteins for the delivery of peptide-based therapeutics.
