Mark Shannon received his Ph.D. from University of California at Berkeley in 1993. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at U of I and a part-time Beckman Institute faculty member in the 3D Micro- and Nanosystems group. His fields of professional interest are the energetics of couples phenomenon along with design and fabrication issues concerning energetics. His research is applied to laser-aided material processing, and the microfabrication of micro- to mesoscale electrical machanical systems (MEMS) and sensors.
