Beckman Institute 20th Anniversary Symposium Welcoming Remarks from Tamer Başar - October 7
Good morning and welcome once again. Today is the third and final day of the Beckman Institute 20th Anniversary Symposium, a day to look ahead to the future and to learn about the building blocks for that future, our four research themes, our two strategic initiatives, and our developing initiative.
Today we will first hear from one of the world’s leading nanoscientists, Charles Lieber, and following that our own Beckman Institute researchers will share with us the important work going on in our research themes. We will also hear about our developing initiative on Healthy Bodies, Brains, Minds and Communities, and our two strategic initiatives launched this year: Imaging and Social Dimensions of Environmental Policy. We will close the day and the symposium with Vision for the Future session, featuring a trio of Beckman Institute faculty members who are at the forefront of extremely innovative, interdisciplinary research.
